The “Slide Out the Funk” television commercial for ARM & HAMMER™ SLIDE™ Clumping Cat Litter features anthropomorphic cats in a disco setting reminiscent of the 1970s. The feline characters, dressed in vibrant period attire, dance on a lit-up floor beneath a mirrored disco ball, highlighting the product’s ease of use and odor control.
Technical Challenges
To deliver perfect footage for head tracking and replacement, we came up with a ‘helmet’ created using a COVID-19 face mask and a dozen differently sized ping-pong balls, each with small crosshairs drawn on them.
Another issue was that the set was interactively lit. A single HDRI for lighting would not suffice, so we created high-resolution 360° HDRI videos, which helped MPC recreate the exact same lighting on the cats as we had in the studio.
For the background actors, we filmed cats on a chroma screen separately, and MPC relit them in post.
